Firewalls

Many networking topologies implement a firewall to control what data passes to and from various devices on the network. In their default configurations, certain firewalls can interfere with the operation of In-Sight Explorer and your ability to detect In-Sight sensors on the network. If you are behind a corporate firewall, or you are not connected to the Internet, you can disable the Windows firewall.

In-Sight Ports

Specific ports are reserved for In-Sight communications. For more information, see In-Sight Ports.

Microsoft Windows Firewall Settings

In-Sight Explorer and In-Sight OPC Classic Server are not automatically added to the Windows Firewall Programs exception list, and a warning dialog may be launched that Windows Firewall Programs has blocked portions of the application. To add the programs, either allow access through the warning dialogs, or manually add the following to the Windows Firewall exception list. For In-Sight Explorer, add the following applications:

  • [Program Files]\Cognex\In-Sight\In-Sight Explorer 5.x.x\In-Sight Explroer.exe
  • [Program Files]\Cognex\In-Sight\Emulators\x.x.x\In-Sight.exe

Note: There are two sub-directories, 4.x.x and 5.x.x, within the Emulators folder. When connected to 4.x.x vision systems, the In-Sight.exe file in the 4.x.x sub-directory will be used. When connected to 5.x.x vision systems, the In-Sight.exe file in the 5.x.x sub-directory will be used.

For the In-Sight OPC Classic Server, add the following application:

  • [Program Files]\Cognex\In-Sight\In-Sight OPC Server 5.x.x\OpcInsight.exe
