The DataMan 24.2.1 software package supports all active DataMan products, including a common Setup Tool. The primary goal of the DataMan 24.2.1 release is to further refine and supplement the functionality of DataMan 24.2.0. Besides general enhancements, bugfixes, and latest documentation, 24.2.1 installs updated firmware for the DataMan 80, 280, and 8072 products:
Firmware Version 6.3.6 SR1 (DataMan 80 and 280 Platforms)
USB-C HID-only (Human Interface Device) mode available through DMCC or reader programming code.
- The reader detects and reacts to a power source change between Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 24 V DC.
- Added pre-charge time option for external lights.
- Improved USB boot-up robustness.
- Resolved Issues
- File-over-EtherCat firmware update no longer causes an automatic reboot.
Firmware Version 5.7.10 SR2 (DataMan 8072 Platform)
- Added date to report, either from a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server or by Setup Tool if no NTP server is in use.
- Updated the look and formatting of the report to fit more information on one page.
- Added report file name customization using macro strings in data logging file name prefix.
- Max exposure default setting (5.7.10_SR1).
- Changed default grading standard to ISO 2915(8 DPM (Direct Part Mark).
- Added support for free text field 07 to encode Text Encoder Initiative (TEI) data fields.
- Added support for GS1 AI 03, 8013 and 8014 in GS1 Data Validation.
- Changed Unique Identifier (UID) data parsing to allow current part number when it also contains original part number.
- Other minor performance and stability enhancements.
General Notes for DataMan 24.2.1
- Enhanced discovery when using Networ Adress Translation (NAT) switches.
- Updated GS1 data validation to 2024 specification.

The DataMan 24.2.0 software package supports all active DataMan products, including a common Setup Tool. The primary goal of the DataMan 24.2.0 release is to further refine and supplement the functionality of DataMan 24.1.0. Besides general enhancements, bugfixes, and latest documentation, 24.2.0 installs updated firmware for our newer DataMan fixed-mount products:
Firmware Versions 6.4.1 SR1 and 6.5.1 SR1 (DataMan 380 and 580 Platforms)
- High-Powered Integrated Torch Improvements
- Added zone mask for Time of Flight (ToF) sensor.
- The High-Powered Integrated Torch can now be used for device identification.
- Resolved Issues
- Bugfix related to 1D data stitching and number of overlapping characters.
- Crash in 3D box management, which occurred particularly with certain earlier dimensioner models.
- Reboot occasionally failed to reset the encoder configuration and the acquisition interval properly.
- Image storage did not respect code re-read delay in Self trigger mode.
- Profinet timing issue with soft events for DMCC execution and match string setting.
Firmware Version 6.3.6 (DataMan 80 and 280 Platforms)
- Enhanced auto-tune for easier and more reliable one-click setup to ensure the highest read rates.
- Introduction of the DataMan 280 EtherCat model.
Firmware Versions 6.1.15 and 6.1.16 (DataMan 370 and 470 Platforms)
Verifier Improvements
- Added diagnostics for when the QR code did not decode with the standard reference decode algorithm.
- Improved PDF417 performance and reporting of Codewords.
- Improved the window layout when using guided focus feedback to better fit the indicator icons.
- Added ability to show or hide the trending graph.
- When upgrading to this version:
- Verification runs slower in this version and speed-sensitive inline applications continue to use version 6.1.14_SR3.
- Existing calibration will be invalid, and you must perform a new calibration.
- Resolved Issues
- Prevented verification results on Data Matrix rectangular symbols when the image is mirrored.
- Selecting distance-based settings, for example trigger delay or output delay, and then triggering the reader without an encoder signal caused the reader to never trigger again. This was an issue even if distance-based settings were disabled.
- The CONFIG.DEFAULT DMCC causing deadlock under certain conditions.
General Notes for DataMan 24.2.0
- New Setup Tool with enhanced auto-tune result display.
- Implemented general bugfixes and improvements in the Setup Tool for improved robustness.
- Decoder improvements for all platforms with new firmware:
- Improved the robustness of QR decoder to handle damaged codes.
- Fixed memory leak when QR decoding was enabled along with MaxiCode or Aztec Code.
- Updated GS1 data validation to 2023 specification.
