Setting Up the Read ID Codes Identification Tool

Once the tool has been added, you will need to select the type of region and then configure it in the image:

  1. Position the region over the area where you expect the code or symbol to appear, and make sure that the boundaries of the region encompass all of the code or symbol. To help speed up the performance of the tool, try and create smaller regions; larger regions take longer to inspect.

Note: When reading 2D codes, it is important to allow a "quiet zone" between the code and the region. The "quiet zone" implies at least a 3 pixel separation between the edge of the code and the region defining the code.
  2. Press the OK button to confirm the region (press the Cancel button to not add the tool to the job).
  3. Once the region is confirmed, you will need to define the mode of operation: Read or Match String (by default, the Mode is set to Read). This setting is configured in the Settings tab.
  4. The tool will remember the code type and search for that specific code type during its run-time operation. If the code type changes, press the Learn button in the Settings tab to allow the tool to identify the new code type, and subsequently search for that code type.
  5. With the tool initially configured, load several images and adjust the tool's parameters, as needed, to compensate for your expected ranges of variations.
  6. Finally, if desired, use the tool's Input/Output properties to share tool data between other tools and/or other external devices.
