Communicating with a Robot

For vision guided robotic applications, EasyBuilder speeds development by automatically examining your application and formatting the data output by a fixture (or the output of another Location or Inspection Tool that returns positional data) into a Manufacturer/Protocol specific format. Once the string has been formatted, the robot controller can request the data by sending a single In-Sight Native Mode command, which returns all of the data formatted in the string.

To communicate with a robot controller, first perform the following:

  1. In the Communications group box, press the Add Device button.
  2. In the Device Setup group box, from the Device drop-down list, select Robot.
  3. From the Manufacturer drop-down list, select the robot manufacturer. If your robot manufacturer is not listed, choose Other.
  4. From the Protocol drop-down list, select your communication protocol. The communication protocols displayed are contingent upon the Manufacturer selection.
  5. Press the OK button.
  6. Optionally, click the Add Device button again to add an additional "secondary" protocol to the job. For more information, refer to the Supported Protocols section on Device Setup.

Once these settings are enabled, you're ready to define the data.
