Configure Time Synchronization

This topic covers how to configure an In-Sight vision system to use CIP-Sync and the Precision Time Protocol (PTP), defined by the IEEE 1588 (version 2) standard, to synchronize events between an In-Sight vision system and an external device, such as a PLC, over non-deterministic Ethernet.

Note:
  • Before enabling CIP-Sync and PTP on the In-Sight vision system, the environment where the vision system will be installed in must already have PTP implemented.
  • Enabling Time Synchronization will add 2 to 2.5% additional processing time to the overall job execution time.
  • In-Sight timestamp accuracy is 8 nanoseconds.
  • When using "Trigger at Time X" functionality, the trigger will occur ± 5 microseconds from the set time, provided the network is configured with the same CIP-Sync and PTP standards. If this is not the case, the trigger could occur up to 100 microseconds from the set time (in a worst case scenario).
