InputPointCloud

The InputPointCloud function provides a reference to the point cloud used in the configured inspection. The point cloud is typically acquired by the vision system itself (for example, by clicking the Trigger Once (F6) button), but can also be loaded from point cloud data stored in Point Cloud Data (PCD), Polygon File Format (PLY), or Cognex PointCloud (RAW) file formats.

The tool's presence is therefore mandatory when configuring other 3D vision tools in the spreadsheet, as it provides access to the point cloud acquisition data for other functions.

From a user perspective, the tool has two use:

  • It provides access to the acquisition settings of the vision system. To open the acquisition settings, simply double-click the tool, press Enter on its cell, or drag-and-drop it from the Toolbox.
  • It also lets you quickly import point cloud data. To load a new point cloud, simply drag-and-drop the saved PCD, PLY or RAW point cloud file onto the function in the spreadsheet.
Note: The InputPointCloud function is automatically inserted into cell A0 when auto-generating a new job, or setting it up manually with the Job Wizard.

The InputPointCloud function has no input parameters.

 

InputPointCloud Outputs

Returns

  • A reference to the point cloud acquired by the vision system.
  • Access to the acquisition settings of the vision system when double-clicking or pressing Enter on its cell.

Results

When inserted into a cell or double-clicked in the Toolbox, the acquisition settings of the vision system open.
