Inputs: Triggering Image Acquisition

To configure your In-Sight vision system to receive an acquisition trigger over an input line from a PLC, photoeye, or other device, complete the following steps.

  1. Click the Set Up Image step.
  2. In the Edit Acquisition Settings group box, select External from the Trigger drop-down menu.

    Note:
    • External Trigger is not supported on the In-Sight 2000 series vision sensor.
    • Faster trigger rates can be achieved by using the vision system's built-in acquisition trigger input (by setting the Trigger to Camera) versus triggering the vision system with a general-purpose input line configured as an Acquisition Trigger (by setting the Trigger to External).
    • If the Trigger parameter is set to External and an acquisition is missed, the ERR: Missed Acquisition output will not be sent from the vision system; the ERR: Missed Acquisition signal is only supported when the Trigger parameter is set to Camera.
  3. Go back to the Inputs/Outputs step.
  4. Select an input line, and set the Signal Type to Acquisition Trigger.

Note: Acquisition Trigger is not supported on the CIO-1400 I/O module.
  5. Set the Edge Type of the signal to Rising Edge or Falling Edge.
  6. Connect the wires from your input device to the Trigger input on an In-Sight vision system Breakout cable or I/O module. Please consult the applicable In-Sight vision system or I/O module installation manual for more information.
