Available Tags vs. Configured Tags

Available Tags

An Available Tag is an OPC Tag that exists on an In-Sight sensor and may be added to your configuration. For example, every sensor or emulator that supports OPC has predefined Sensor Tags which are always available to be added to your configuration. Additionally, you can use In-Sight Explorer to add a custom Job Tag to any spreadsheet cell that contains data; this Job Tag then becomes an Available Tag that can be added to your configuration.

Available Tags appear in the Available Tags pane of the Configuration Editor window.

Configured Tags

In order for the In-Sight sensor data associated with an Available Tag to become accessible to OPC clients, the Available Tag must be added to your configuration. Once the Available Tag is added to your configuration, it becomes a Configured Tag.

Configured Tags appear in the Configured Tags panes of both the Configuration Editor window and the Server Runtime window.

You can add new Job Tags to the configuration even though they are not yet available. This can be useful if you are working on a laptop while off the network, or if the In-Sight spreadsheet job has not yet been created.

Note: If you are adding tags to the configuration before they are available on the sensor, each tag name must match identically (including case) between the In-Sight OPC Classic Server's Configured Tags list and the In-Sight sensor's job file; otherwise, the Tag Quality will be reported as a 'Configuration Error.
