In-Sight ViDi PC Manager Settings

The In-Sight ViDi PC Manager allows you to configure how the In-Sight ViDi PC service starts on the PC, and what network adapter to use for communication.

The Manager has the following settings:

Category Description
Status

The Status section serves two purposes:

  • Indicates the status of the In-Sight ViDi PC service or the configured In-Sight ViDi emulator. The service/emulator can have four states: Running, Stopped, or being in the state of Starting/Stopping.
  • Allows you to manually stop the running instance of the current process. This is required if you want to change the network settings or switch between production and emulation modes.

Clicking the Stop button will stop the current instance of the service. When using In-Sight ViDi PC in production mode, the button is labeled Stop. When using an emulator, it is labeled Stop Emulator.

Note: You must stop the running emulator before launching a production instance of the In-Sight ViDi PC service. Likewise, if you want to configure an emulator, you must stop the currently running instance of In-Sight ViDi PC.
Manual Start

Click the Start button to manually start the version of the In-Sight ViDi PC service selected in the Manual Start drop-down list. Typically, you need to do this if the In-Sight ViDi PC service is not configured to start automatically, or if In-Sight ViDi PC has been running in emulation mode earlier, but you have stopped the emulator and want to switch to production mode instead.

Note:

  • When running In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.8.0, this drop-down box does not list the In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 service, even if you have In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 also installed on the PC. To start an In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 instance, use the In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 window, available through the Cognex In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 > In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 node of the Windows start menu, or in the following location:

    <X>:\Program Files\Cognex\In-Sight\In-Sight ViDi PC Runtime\1.2.0\Cognex.InSight.ViDi.PC.Manager.exe
  • Although the In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 window lists both the 1.2.0 and 1.8.0 services in the drop-down box, Cognex recommends starting only the 1.2.0 service with that window.
Network

Sets the network adapter to use for I/O operations and communicating with other devices (such as PLCs) on the network. The drop-down list includes the network adapters installed in the device and the 127.0.0.1 (localhost) interface.

  • Select the desired network adapter that the In-Sight ViDi PC service will use for communication.

  • Select 127.0.0.1 (localhost) if the job is still under development, or if the PC already uses a communication card for industrial communication, and you do not want to expose your PC on a public network.
Note:
  • Emulated devices only support 127.0.0.1 (localhost).
  • You must stop the In-Sight ViDi PC service with the Stop button (or Stop Emulation button, when using an Emulator) of the Status section to change the public network adapter. Once the value is changed, click the Start button of the Manual Start section to restart the service.
Startup Options

Allows you to set when the In-Sight ViDi PC services will start automatically. Settings are saved by clicking the Apply button.

Note:
  • Cognex recommends starting the selected runtime service automatically by checking the Start when a user logs in option, once the service is selected and configured.
  • You must stop the In-Sight ViDi PC service with the Stop button (or Stop Emulation button, when using an Emulator) of the Status section to change the startup options. Once the settings are changed, click the Start button of the Manual Start section to restart the service.
  • If the In-Sight ViDi PC service is set to start automatically at login (with the Start when a user logs in checkbox of the In-Sight ViDi PC Manager dialog checked), and an In-Sight ViDi emulator is also set to start when launching In-Sight Vision Suite (with the Automatically run the emulator on startup checkbox of the Emulator Configuration dialog checked), then the In-Sight ViDi PC service always takes precedence over emulation.

  • When running In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.8.0, this drop-down box does not list the In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 service, even if you have In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 also installed on the PC. To start an In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 instance, use the In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 window, available through the Cognex In-Sight ViDi 1.2.0 > In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 node of the Windows start menu, or in the following location:

    <X>:\Program Files\Cognex\In-Sight\In-Sight ViDi PC Runtime\1.2.0\Cognex.InSight.ViDi.PC.Manager.exe
  • Although the In-Sight ViDi PC Manager 1.2.0 window lists both the 1.2.0 and 1.8.0 services in the drop-down box, Cognex recommends setting only the 1.2.0 service to start up with it.
