Setting Up the Bead Tracker Defect Detection Tool

Once the tool has been added, you will need to select the type of region and then configure it in the image over the edge feature that you want to inspect:

  1. From the Region Type drop-down menu, select your region: Masked Region or Polyline Path. Position and configure the region within the image over the edge feature. When positioning the region, ensure that the edges are parallel to the region's search direction, and that the region encloses as much of the edge feature as possible, while also excluding unnecessary or unwanted noise from the region. When initially setting up the tool, use an image that contains the ideal edge feature. Subsequent image acquisitions will then contain edge candidates that will be examined to determine if there are deviations such as defects or gaps.

Note: The dashed yellow line within the Masked Region defines the area within the region where edge transitions will be detected.
  2. Press the OK button to confirm the region (press the Cancel button to not add the tool to the job).

  3. After you have confirmed the region, select the various tabs, Train Bead, Edges, Edge Scoring, Defects, Gaps and Position, and adjust the parameters and region, as needed, to ensure that the tool is detecting the correct edge candidates and creating the correct polyline.
  4. Once the region and parameters have been properly adjusted, go the Train Bead tab and press the Train button to create the bead edge model. Subsequent image acquisitions will then be compared against the trained bead edge model.
  5. With the tool initially configured, load several images and adjust the tool's parameters, as needed, to compensate for your expected ranges and variations.
  6. Finally, if desired, use the tool's Input/Output properties to share tool data between other tools and/or other external devices.
